Poll options r up...

Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Mosin. Especially of the Finnish remanufacture.
The German rifles are very good and offer lots of utility. But the Finns with cheap and easily available 7.62x54R is a winning combination for prepping. IMHO |
Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Like totally unfair dude there is discrimination afoot here, IE no option for a FN FAL nor a HK G3.
But if one had only the two you have offered the Mauser all the way without a doubt what so ever. Quote:

Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
I also put in a vote for the Finnish M39, which I consider to be the best and most accurate variation of the Mosin Nagant (actually it is one of the most accurate WWII rifles, period).
The great thing about them is legendary manufacturers, such as Sako and Tikka, were among those who produced the rifles on top of captured Russian receivers. Here's a great information page on the Finnish M39: http://www.mosinnagant.net/finland/finnish_mosin_nagantm39.asp I enjoy firing all types of rifles, but I definitely have a soft spot for the Finnish M39. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/0015_small.jpg |

Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Always been a fan of the Mauser action rifles. I've owned or do own 7mm, 8mm and my favorite the 6.5x55 Swede.

Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Finnish M39! Don't listen to the Mauser guys, They've never even been to a shooting range, and they like to run over new born kittens with their hummers!

Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Assuming you're comparing a Mosin 7.62x54R versus a Mauser 8mm......
Mosin = cheaper Mauser = bigger punch with better penetration and most likely more accurate I prefer German, but that's just me. |
Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
I own two of the Mosin M91/30's. Both in excellent (factory refurb) shape, both provide excellent "Reach Out and Touch Someone," and both were under $100. Once you get the varnish build-up (from surplus ammo) out of the chamber, they cycle just fine, and they shoot pretty damn straight, even with me doing the shooting.
I do also love my 1914 Karl Gustov 6.5x55 Swede, ammo is just more expensive (no more surplus). |
Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Nagant, better shooter, hands down.
Ammo is cheap right now.. stock up while you can. A Swedish Muaser in 6.5 is sweet if you can find it. Better than both the afore mentioned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Mauser |
Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
:553: I own both...8mm ammo is way too expensive compared to the Mosins.
Accuracy ? Iron sights...not a hell of a lot of difference between the two. My 8mm Mauser is a German built war horse circa 1918 and heavy as hell. Not your ideal sporting rifle if you get my drift. All my Soviet Mosins are M38's and M44's...I prefer the carbines, especially the M38's without a bayonet for deer and wild boar hunting. Drag a heavy Mauser around in the woods all day and then try a Mosin carbine . You'll vote Mosin in a hurry.:yes::biggrin: Both are proven and very reliable firearm designs under battle conditions. I just prefer the Mosins. |

Including the Swedes. You can't beat a Swedish Mauser in 6.5mm. Reloading is the only way to go, as mentioned above. Of course that's true with almost all rifles. |
Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
This is an appropriate poll as there's a gun show this weekend and I was hoping to pick up a classic style rifle. Problem is, I don't know what I like shooting. I am willing to make an expensive mistake, that's not a big deal. My concerns are things like clip size, ammo girth, and accuracy.
Another thing I have trouble understanding is the ammunition that is measured out in mm's or the #x# ammo. |
Re: MilSurp HivePoll: of these two, which?
Tough choice, my M38 over my K98 Mauser. I gave the vote to the Mauser, just a little better fit & finish. I'm more accurate with the Mauser on any given day (both iron sights).
